There is a one week period that they can. New to this CBA.

Team elected Arbitration also does not guarantee ROR a raise on his 6.5 salary. He can be awarded as little as 85% of his current salary.

July 1st-July 5th he can be offersheeted. To make it anythign that the Avs wont match, you would have to be in this neighbourhood for compensation

Over $6,728,781 To $8,410,976 - Two 1st Round Picks, 2nd, 3rd.

Bc The Avs filed team arbitration doesnt mean much, just gives them more power in their negotiations. Since it limits the offersheet window as well as stops him from being a summer/trainign camp hold out. Just business and a safety net if things go sideways with him.

It is a steep price to pay even for a player of Orielly's calibur. You are basically taking yourself out of one draft year and giving up another 1st. In order to be Ok with this you'd have to be loaded with young talent or loaded with other teams draft picks

I'm not sure how upset I would be if the Flames offer sheeted ROR again.

On one hand....he's a great player and he's a sure thing. Who's to say a guy like Bennett or Draisatl will ever get to his point?

On the other hand....the 2015 first round pick is VERY valuable....can't say that enough.

I would rather the Flames trade this years first and backlund or something for ROR.

Thats a tough one to call, I really think Calgary should stay away from this one. Hold on to those picks at all cost for next year!

A lot of people are making a huge deal about this but until they actually get to arbitration theres nothing to worry about. Every year somewhere around 40-50 players file for arbitration and only one, maybe two actually make it. It's usually used as a negotiating tactic or back up plan. I don't see this being much different.

I dont think Teams will offersheet him bc of that price tag. Anything under that, Avs will just instantly match. To give up The 2015 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick plus a 2016 1st. Thats a crazy about for ROR, as much as I like the guy.

The bidding will be after this years draft so the picks would be 2015 & 2016 i think.

Do you know if those salary thresholds are final or estimates to be finalized upon the official salary cap #?

Those are player filing for arbitration, teams filing it are a bit more rare, but still business as usual. I think the last one to happen was Canucks on Mason Raymond

Those are final throughout this CBA, they do not change year to year based on the Cap

mmm...that doesn't seem right. Draft pick compensation could be really skewed in the later years of the cba.

If the Leafs offer sheeted ROR I would have a fit. For certain those 1sts would turn into lotto picks and we would have another Phil Kessel trade mess on our hands for the haters to pick apart.

How so? Sign a guy over 8.4m and you give up 4 1st round picks. Its the same compensation as last CBA, just the values increased.

He took 1 penalty all year.

And had 60+ points.

You are incorrect.

If the salary cap is $100M in year 6, guys making $8.4 will not be worth anywhere near the draft pick compensation. Basically renders the process useless.

Rates are good for next year, will go up with league salaries thereafter.
